The planet Earth is experiencing the increasing effects of climate change. The consequences of climate change, such as extreme heat, water shortage, drought, floods, desertification, micro dusts, are also rapidly becoming apparent in Iran. This article answers this question that “Are the consequences of climate change a threat to the existence and national security of Iran?” The hypothesis of the article is formulated in such a way that “climate change is a super-crisis and immediate security threat that can face the country from the inside with economic instability, social tensions, displacement of the population and a decrease in government legitimacy. From the external aspect, it can also be the basis of alliances and coalitions and conflicts between Iran and its neighbors over common watersheds.”
The results of the research show that Iran's government should overcome the strategy of indecision in the issue of climate change consequences. Because the widespread and unforeseen of climate change can be second only to a global nuclear war. The theoretical framework of this article is Copenhagen security theory and the research method is descriptive-analytical.
