Factors affecting the relations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Republic of Azerbaijan from 1992 to 2016

Abstract

One of the countries of the South Caucasus region that won its independence from the Soviet Union in the 1990s is Azerbaijan, which has significant importance among the countries of the Caucasus region due to its high energy resources, especially oil and gas. Due to the historical, ethnic, cultural, religious and neighboring ties with Azerbaijan, the Islamic Republic of Iran has always tried to increase its relations with the country, however, it has been seeking to achieve its goals and interests in the country. Azerbaijan and the establishment of political, economic, cultural and energy relations with problems and problems have faced Inthis article, we are looking at these problems and barriers to the Islamic Republic of Iran. In fact, after the collapse of the Soviet Union, strategic factors, geochemistry, geo-nuclear and geopolitics have been effective in shaping the policy of competition between Iran and Azerbaijan, which has been the subject of our review. In addition, in this article we discuss theoretical framework of neoclassical realism (defensive realism) and descriptive-analytic method to study Iran’s foreign policy and its effective factors.
